Application & Eligibility
Who can apply for a Fashion Week internship?
Anyone with a genuine interest in fashion and live events can apply. We welcome college students, recent graduates, career changers, and self-taught professionals. There is no specific degree requirement. Applications are reviewed based on enthusiasm, reliability, and relevant skills.
Do I need prior fashion industry experience to apply?
No. While previous experience in fashion, events, marketing, or communications is a plus, it is not required. We value transferable skills like organization, communication, and teamwork. Many of our strongest interns come from non-traditional backgrounds.
Is there an age requirement?
Applicants must be at least 18 years old. There is no upper age limit. We encourage applicants at every career stage.
Can international applicants apply?
Yes. International applicants are welcome to apply. You are responsible for securing any necessary visas or work authorization. Our Paris Fashion Week internships may have different requirements — these are discussed during the interview process.
Can I choose which department I intern in?
You can indicate your preferred department on your application, and we do our best to match you. Final placement depends on your skills, availability, and the needs of each event. Departments include Event Production, Marketing & Social Media, Public Relations, Designer Relations, Operations, and Sponsorship.
Compensation & Logistics
Is the Fashion Week internship paid?
Fashion internship pay and compensation details are discussed during the interview process and vary by role, event, and duration. Some positions offer stipends, salary, or other forms of compensation. We are transparent about compensation during the interview stage so there are no surprises.
Is housing or travel provided?
Housing and travel are not provided by The Bureau Fashion Week. However, we can offer guidance on affordable accommodations near event venues. Many interns coordinate shared housing with other team members.
Can I receive college credit for this internship?
Yes. If your school offers academic credit for internships, we are happy to work with your program coordinator to fulfill any required documentation, learning agreements, or evaluations.
How long does the internship last?
Program length varies by event and department. Typical commitments range from 2 weeks to a full Fashion Week season. Pre-event preparation may begin several weeks before show dates. Exact timelines are confirmed during onboarding.

Remote vs. On-Site
Can I intern remotely?
Some Marketing and PR roles offer remote flexibility during the pre-event planning phase. However, most internship roles — especially Event Production, Operations, and Designer Relations — require on-site presence during Fashion Week events. Remote availability is discussed during placement.
What if I can only attend part of the event?
We prefer interns who can commit to the full event schedule, but partial availability is considered on a case-by-case basis. Let us know your availability on your application and we will work with you where possible.
Fashion Week Volunteer vs Intern — What Is the Difference?
What is the difference between an intern and a volunteer?
Interns are placed in a specific department with defined responsibilities, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Interns work closely with senior team members and are involved in planning, coordination, and execution. Volunteers typically assist with day-of event tasks on a more general basis.
Can I start as a volunteer and become an intern?
Yes. Many of our interns started as event volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to get your foot in the door and demonstrate your commitment. Strong volunteers are often invited to apply for intern positions for future events.
Event Day & Schedule
What are the typical working hours during Fashion Week?
Event days are long and high-energy. Interns should expect 10-14 hour days during peak show dates. Call times vary by department but typically start in the early morning. Schedules are shared in advance so you can plan accordingly.
What should I wear?
Interns are expected to dress professionally in all-black attire unless otherwise directed. Comfortable shoes are essential — you will be on your feet all day. Specific dress code guidelines are provided during onboarding.
Will I interact with celebrities, designers, or VIPs?
Yes. Depending on your department, you may interact with designers, models, press, influencers, buyers, and VIP guests. All interns are expected to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in these interactions.
After the Internship
Can the internship lead to a full-time position?
Yes. The Bureau Fashion Week regularly hires from its intern pool. Outstanding interns who demonstrate leadership, reliability, and strong performance are considered for continued roles within the organization.
Will I receive a reference or recommendation?
Yes. Interns who complete their commitment in good standing are eligible for professional references from senior team members. We want to help you succeed in your next career step.
Can I intern at multiple Fashion Week events?
Absolutely. Many interns participate in multiple events across different cities. This is one of the unique advantages of interning with The Bureau — you can build experience across New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Miami, and Dallas, TX.
